Proudly dominating the northern tip of the island, the Phare de Chassiron is one of the most emblematic sites on the Île d'Oléron. Erected in 1836, this black-and-white lighthouse still guides navigators and offers a 360° view of the Atlantic Ocean, the Pertuis d'Antioche and the surrounding coastline from its summit. After climbing its 224 steps, visitors discover a grandiose panorama, while the landscaped garden below invites relaxation. The adjoining museum traces the history of the lighthouse, navigation and local maritime life.
The salt marshes of the Ile d'Oléron bear witness to an ancestral savoir-faire handed down since the 5th century.
